In the 1900 census they had been married 4 years and had 3 children all still living.
Also listed in the 1900 census, William was a farmer and he could read, write and speak English.
William and Hattie were divorced August 8, 1922 Wise Co., VA12.
William was informant on son Robert's death certificate in 19265 and stated his address as Big Stone Gap, VA.
William's 2nd marriage was to Flossie Nickols on August 21, 1929 in Ashe Co., NC.
William was 50 years old at time of his 2nd marriage and Flossie was 30 years old.
The 1930 Census William states he was 22 years old at his 1st marriage making his marriage to Flossie his 2nd marriage.
The 1940 Census William & Flossie had one son, John Marshall Fields.
William & Hattie's daughter Fannie's obituary list one half brother, Johnny Fields, also confirming a 2nd marriage.

In the 1930 Census, Hattie was listed as widow living with daughters Allie(S), Garnett Osic(D)& Fannie(S), also 2 granddaughters.
The 1940 Census Hattie was again listed as widow, living with daughter Allie and two grandchildren 4.
Not sure why Hattie was listed as widow instead of divorced but at those times William was still living.

William died December 5, 194221 and Flossie(his 2nd wife) was still living21.
Hattie died January 18, 1952 and her daughter Rosa was the informant20.

William Marshall died December 5, 1942 in Ashe Co., North Carolina.
After Williams death, Flossie married for a 2nd time to George N. Warner on June 25, 1954.
Flossie died August 6, 1971 and is buried in Payne Cemetery, Johnson County Tennessee.
